Members of the Austin Peay football team stopped in Selma, Alabama, on Friday to walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

The Governors were on their way to Montgomery for Saturday night’s FCS Kickoff against Central Arkansas.

« What a great experience in Selma with our Govs football student athletes! » Austin Peay athletic director Gerald Harrison wrote on Twitter. « Also great to have president Dannelle Whiteside join us as we walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Today we all learned a little more about Good Trouble. »

Former Georgia Congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis, who died July 17, was one of the prominent activists who marched across the bridge on March 7, 1965. He suffered a fractured skull when state troopers beat the peaceful protesters trying to cross the bridge to bring awareness to racial inequities in voting registration.
