Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix are expected to release a written update on new COVID-19 cases in the province on Wednesday afternoon.
Before the update is released, the two health officials will join B.C. Premier John Horgan for a live briefing on how the province plans to manage the pandemic during the fall. The live announcement will be streamed on CTV News Vancouver Island at 1:15 p.m.
The cases were recorded between Friday and Tuesday, bringing the province’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 6,591.
Over the same time period, two more people died of the virus in B.C., bringing the province’s death toll to 213.
As of Wednesday, 32 people were in hospital for treatment of COVID-19, 12 of whom are in intensive care.
As of Tuesday, the Island Health region had recorded at total of 184 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, an increase of four since Friday. Seven of the cases are currently considered active.
Due to a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, health officials announced Tuesday that all nightclubs and standalone banquet halls were closed indefinitely.
New rules for the bar and restaurant industries were also announced, including a cut off time for when liquor can be served and a limit on how loud music can be at these venues.
