Canada Post is suspending service in Metro Vancouver and parts of southern B.C. because of wildfire smoke from the U.S
Parts of Vancouver Island, Kelowna, Penticton, Cranbrook, Castlegar, Nelson, Trail, Vernon and Kamloops will see delays
VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Canada Post is calling off service for the day in Metro Vancouver as wildfire smoke from the United States continues to blanket the sky around parts of southern B.C.
Citing concern for its employees, Canada Post says in a tweet smoke is making deliveries a challenge for local carriers and it isn’t safe sending them out.
Due to poor air quality in central and southern #BritishColumbia caused by smoke from forest fires in the western United States, we are suspending delivery for the day and not sending our delivery agents out as conditions have made it unsafe. (1/4)

Delivery will start again when it is deemed safe to do so, according to Canada Post.
– Metro Vancouver area
– South Vancouver Island (Duncan, Sidney and Victoria)
– North Vancouver Island (Campbell River and Powell River)
The suspension is in effect for Metro Vancouver, parts of Vancouver Island, the Okanagan Valley and Similkameen regions, as well as the Kootenay, Nicola, and Fraser regions.
While the air quality around Metro Vancouver has improved slightly, it is still poor around most of the Lower Mainland. Over the weekend, Vancouver’s air quality was one of the worst in the world.
NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says there won’t be much of a noticeable improvement to the air quality until a little later in the week.
“We simply don’t have the mechanism to get it out of the way during the day today (Monday),” he says, adding some isolated showers later in the night could help.
