CM – 6 Paralympians from our area to see in Tokyo 2020

During the Paralympics 2020 in Tokyo we will watch six sports stars from our region who take part in the games and want to return from the land of the rising sun with a medal.

As one of the best-known names at the Paralympics, Peacock is back in Team GB for the first time since 2017 and is chasing a third gold medal in a row in the T44 100-meter race.

Born in Cambridge, but close by Growing up in Shepreth, he lost his right leg just below the knee after contracting meningitis at the age of five.

At the 2012 Summer Paralympics, Peacock won the 100m T44 final with one time of 10.90 seconds and won gold and the Paralympic record.

Four years later, the 28-year-old won gold again in Rio in a time of 10.81 seconds.

After being absent for four years Back on track, Peacock is looking forward to the race, telling BBC Radio 5 Live: « Winning a third consecutive Paralympic title is something I never dreamed of being possible.

 » As For top athletes, this is the largest stage. It’s the 11 seconds that count and I will give absolutely everything.

« It will be a great spectacle and a race that I would love to see if I weren’t there. »

Cundy was born in Wisbech with a deformed foot that was amputated at a young age and has ties to Hatfield, a former member of the town’s swimming club and a former student at the University of Hertfordshire.

The games in Tokyo will be his seventh Paralympic Games, having competed as a swimmer in Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 before turning to cycling for Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016.

For the C4 individual pursuit and the mixed Team sprinting back on the bike, Cundy will seek to expand his gold medals in Beijing and Rio and bronze in London.

Ryan of Welwyn Garden City was an avid soccer player and golfer before suffering a spinal injury in 2008 that turned him into a Wheelchair behind.

During his rehabilitation he was introduced to wheelchair rugby in the spine department of Stoke Mandeville Hospital and joined the London Wheel in 2010 chair rugby club at.

Ryan was part of the team that finished fifth in the 2016 Rio Games, but now as captain and after winning the 2019 European Championship in Denmark, he and the team are aiming for a medal in Tokyo .

Louise Fiddes hopes to add a Paralympic medal to her world and European championship titles.

Fiddes is already world and European champion at the age of only 20 and will try to add a Paralympic medal to her collection when she competes in Tokyo.

The star of the Hatfield Swimming Club already has one of her Race completed and fifth in the women’s 100m butterfly S14, but she has three more chances to take home bronze, silver or gold.

Fiddes is also in the 200m freestyle S14, 100m chest SB14 and ride 200m medley SM14.

Peasgood will compete in two different sports in Tokyo, which not only shows his talent but also his determination to overcome a traumatic childhood injury in which he has one left leg longer than his right .

Primarily a triathlete who competed in Rio 2016 in the PTS5 and finished seventh, he will prove his cycling skills in Tokyo when he competes in the C4-5 road race and the C4 time trial .

Su Gar, another multisport star from Saffron Walden, played field hockey and took part in the 2016 Rio games in the T44 before paracanoing in 2018.

After she won silver just a year after her debut on the water won the ICF World Championships, she will have her eye on a medal in Tokyo.
