The fire on the holiest site in Judaism sets an exclamation point for a rapidly escalating security situation.

On Monday evening a large fire broke out on the Temple Mount. Fireworks by Arab rioters were accused.

A police spokesman said: « The police and border police are making preparations in the square of the Western Wall after a fire that started on the Temple Mount near the Western Wall, apparently as a result of fireworks that was fired by [the Arab rioters]. «

The fire resulted in the plaza by the Western Wall being evacuated for the second time on Monday, the first after the Hamas rocket attack at around 6:00 p.m. when a rocket landed in a settlement near the capital.

However, a large crowd of Jewish celebrants had returned to celebrate Jerusalem Day, which commemorates the reunification of the city after the Six Day War Dancing the wailing wall

The fire on the holiest place of Judaism is an exclamation point for a rapidly escalating security situation that began with the beginning of Ramadan on April 13th when Arab youths got upset and this continued in the following weeks Foreign governments, including the Biden government, have called for silence in some cases and expressed their displeasure with Israel. (Israel reportedly told the US that their comments were not helpful.)

The worst happened this weekend with violence on the Temple Mount and in Sheikh Jarrah, a neighborhood in Jerusalem. This violence spread until Monday, when a Jewish driver was nearly lynched by Arab stone throwers.

Israeli security services have raised concerns that the situation is sensitive and could lead to a major fire that would spread violence in Judea and Samaria and even to parts of Israel with a strong Arab population.

In preparation for possible violence, the IDF chief of staff, Aviv Kochavi, ordered three more brigades to strengthen the Judea and Samaria region. This is in addition to four additional brigades that have been called up as reinforcements in the past few days.
