CM – Adelaide Crows do the impossible

The Crows became the first team to beat the Demons this season, taking a thrilling one-point win in front of their home fans.

Adelaide did the unthinkable, with Taylor Walker scoring the winning goal in the last minute to stun previously undefeated Melbourne in a one-point boilover on Saturday.

The brave crows lay in a hectic finals down by up to 16 points but smelled a famous disgruntled win when Darcy Fogarty dropped them five points less than four minutes before the end of the high quality contest.

Walker was the hero when he left Steven May and his third goal with 43 seconds ahead of cool drilled to end the unbeaten run of the Demons with nine wins.

The pulsating competition went to the wire, the last siren sounded with the ball deep into Melbourne’s attack 50 – the end result 15 , 6 (96) to 14.11 (95).

Max Gawn had the upper hand early on in his duel with Reilly O’Brien. Star Ruckman’s dominance gave the Demons an 18-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

But the Crows were only five points behind in the first break after James Rowe scored two goals in a row.

Adelaide led the competition for the first time when Fogarty converted a free kick 10 minutes into second season, but a long bombshell from James Harmes equalized the points at halftime.

That lead extended to 12 points before the ladder ladder deep dug. Kysaiah Pickett put on the afterburners to score his first hit. Clayton Oliver scored his second goal with an excellent shot and gave his team a three-point advantage at three-quarters time.

Clayton Oliver’s class was consistently evident, but he took his game to another level in a tense final phase. The star midfielder drove through traffic to give Charlie Spargo the first goal of the quarter and helped himself to his third goal, improving his side by 16 points eight minutes from time, before the dramatic end to the visitors’ unbeaten run finished.

The Crows were led by midfield trio Ben Keays, Rory Laird and Paul Seedsman, who all ended with 34 strokes.

Walker was rested after losing to West Coast in Perth last week, and the former skipper faces another hiatus after being reported in the second quarter. Walker threw Clayton Oliver onto the lawn after the ball left the area. Referee Curtis Deboy reported him for a dangerous duel.

Walker could have Fogarty with him after being reported on strike against Jake Lever in the third quarter.
