Margao: Debutants FC Goa deserves to compete in the AFC Champions League, says Persepolis FC head coach Yahya Golmohammadi, who expects a tough fight against the Indian team on Tuesday.

FC Goa was the first Indian team that played in the continent’s high profile club competition. It exceeded expectations when AL-Rayyan and Al Wahda drew goalless in their first two games in the prestigious league.

« I’ve seen both games and they really worked and ran a lot. It’s not just for us but also surprising for everyone else in the ACL (Goa FC’s position on the table), « said Golmohammadi on the eve of the game.

The Indian club are not only technically solid, the players are also mentally strong, like that Golmohammadi.

« Mentally they are at a really high level, and technically they have done well too. It is no coincidence that they stopped two good teams. They did it out of merit. »

« It won’t be easy against them tomorrow. We have to concentrate hard because our rivals are very good at counterattacking, » Golmohammadi continued.

Goa FC head coach Juan said before the game against Persepolis Ferrando that this is for his team is a « dream ».

« This (to play at this level) is like a dream come true for us. We only take it game after game. For us, it’s all about the Persepolis game. We take it game after game and we concentrate. «

Only a second place in the group stage does not guarantee Goa a qualification for the knockout phase.

Only three of the best second-placed teams of the West Asian groups A, B, C, D and E reach the knockout stage.

« From my point of view, the most important game is the next and we’re next to play Persepolis. I love this competition, but we have to take it step by step.

« We’ll try to get more points, but it’s about the mentality. The players need this experience (to play at this level) », explained Ferrando.

« It will not be easy as Persepolis already has a lot of experience in the ACL. In this case we have to work three times more than they do. In the end we have to keep the focus every second, tomorrow or tomorrow we could have big problems, « he said.

Goa goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem, who has impressed everyone with his performance and has not conceded two goals in so many ACL appearances, believes that the time that he at FC Goa has increased his confidence.

« The World Cup (FIFA U-17) was a big thing for me and it certainly helped build trust, but it is for a young goalkeeper like me important to keep playing games, luckily I’ve been able to do this since I came to Goa, « said Dheeraj.

While he has faced difficult times in recent years, Dheeraj feels that they have helped make him a better player.

« As a player you don’t get everything and you have to use the difficult moments as a learning process as a player and as a person, » said Dheeraj.

« I’ve worked hard since I moved to Goa and the coach loves it that I do this and play my natural game. That helped me regain my confidence. «
