The shock rock legend publicly defends the Pirates of the Caribbean star against abuse allegations made against him by ex-wife Amber Heard – allegations that a UK judge found « essentially true » in 2020.
Cooper, who appears with Depp and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry in the rock supergroup Hollywood Vampires, says he just can’t imagine his good buddy ever doing the horrific acts that Heard accused him of doing .
« Johnny is one of the cutest people I’ve ever met in my life, » he said on page 6. « He’s the most harmless person I’ve ever met, so I don’t buy all the other stories because I know him and everyone else who knows him knows that. «
The singer » Welcome to My Nightmare « , who is a devout Christian despite his macabre stage personality, says he hasn’t been with Depp lately but « got some emails ».
« What surprises people most about Johnny is – besides, he’ll sit and talk to you for an hour, even if he’s you doesn’t know – that he’s a great guitarist, « Cooper continued. « He’s working with Jeff Beck right now. You don’t play with Jeff Beck unless you’re a damn good guitarist. Johnny is a surprisingly good guitarist. He was a guitarist before he became an actor. »
The abuse allegations against Depp were the subject of a London court battle last year when the actor tried to sue The Sun newspaper for branding him a « bully » for allegedly assaulting Heard during their short marriage.
The judge ruled, however last November that the allegations against Depp in the article were « essentially true » and lost the case. Depp’s appeal to overturn the sentence was denied in March of last year.
The 35-year-old « Aquaman » -Star and 57-year-old Depp have been together since 2012 and tied the knot in 2015.
But just a year later, Heard filed for divorce and received an injunction against him claiming w Urde that he had physically and verbally abused throughout their relationship. She also claimed that the star « Edward Scissorhands » was often under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Depp’s career was influenced by the high-profile trial and unsavory headlines. After the court ruling, he was ousted from the film franchise « Fantastic Beast ».
