CM – Amazon’s MMO New World is out now, but the servers are struggling

Amazon’s MMO New World has finally started. After several delays and two rather popular betas, people can now jump to the supernatural island of Aeternum and stay there for as long as they want. The EU servers are already live, the rest of the world will follow today. However, be careful if you jump in this morning as some players report long queues while others struggle to get in line at all.

New World is quite a PvP-heavy MMORPG, but it has a lot of quests for PvE lovers. I played a bit on one of the beta weekends and surprised myself how much I enjoyed it. I’m not usually an MMO fanatic, but this one has fun and active hack-and-slash battles and good craftsmanship too. In his preview of the New World, Ed said it had as much in common with Valheim as it did with World Of Warcraft, and I agree.

EU servers went live at 7 a.m. BST this morning, and other regions will go live in the next few hours. Here are the times:

You could wait a little to get to the New World. Most of the forums on the forum have threads created by frustrated players waiting in long lines and a couple of my friends couldn’t queue at all as the game threw them back in the menu. Developers briefly took a couple of worlds offline this morning to address stability issues, though it’s currently unclear whether those issues have been fixed.

As for other teething troubles, some players report that New World doesn’t register their clicks to interact with the world. Some say they had to restart their games to fix this, which unfortunately puts them back on a different queue.

It’s worth noting that server problems and long waits are quite common with large game releases. The demand is very high at the moment and hopefully something will clear up in the course of the day.

If you manage to get into the game this morning, we have plenty of guides to get you started. We’ll tell you how to level up quickly in New World and give you some general tips and tricks for beginners.

At least the popularity of New World suggests that Amazon may finally have a successful game up its sleeve. They’ve been cursed with rejections so far, given up on a Lord of the Rings MMO, released and then quickly released their hero shooter Crucible, killing their MOBA Breakaway before it ever saw the light of day. Good luck, New World.
