The Union’s Interior Minister Amit Shah delivered his greetings to the people on Thursday on the occasion of Diwali.
On his Twitter handle, Mr Shah said: « I wish everyone a very ‘Happy Diwali’. May this one great festival of light and happiness enlighten everyone’s life with new energy, light, health and prosperity. «
Diwali is observed on the 15th day of Kartik, the holiest month in the Hindu lunar calendar, and it is believed to be Lord Rama (the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu) returned on this day from a 14-year exile in which he fought and won a battle against the demon king Ravan.
People celebrate the festival by decorating their houses, gifts exchange and offer prayers to commemorate the « victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance ».
Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the people on the occasion of Diwali and wish believed that the festival would bring « good fortune, prosperity and fortune ».
