Hello and welcome to Sportstars Live coverage of the group game between ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC AFC Cup, which will be played in Male.

An exciting first half is coming to an end, when ATK Mohun Bagan leads 1-0 thanks to a 39th-minute header from Roy Krishna. Both teams started slowly and the game began to develop after the first 20 minutes. ATKMB relied on the creative abilities of newcomer Boumous, who was instrumental in the chances and fate of the team. Bengaluru, on the other hand, struggled to put passes together in the last third and rarely challenged ATKMB keeper Amrinder.

The Mariners took the lead when Krishna headed past Gurpreet to open his record for the season. The Fijian scored 14 goals last season and won the ISL Golden Shoe.

Bengaluru will be keen to get on the scorers list and find a way back into the game as they pursue their first win against ATK Mohun Bagan since 2019.

45 ‘Bengaluru win a late corner, may but don’t transform. ATK Mohun Bagan heads into the break 1-0.

43 ‘Bengaluru is pushing for a quick equalizer, but to no avail. Coach Marco Pezzaiuoli will deal with his team’s attacking problems during the break.

41 ‘Krishna seizes his few chances. He had a relatively quiet half an hour, but when the opportunity arose the Fijian pounced on it. He scored 14 goals for the Mariners in the ISL last season.

39 ‘GOAAAAAAAAAAL! Roy Krishna puts ATK Mohun Bagan in the lead! Boumous floats in the corner from the right and Subhasish heads them towards the gate. Krishna, unmarked in the goal, heads the ball past Gurpreet to give the Mariners an important lead.

38 ‘Big effort from Roshan on the right. He uses his body to keep Manveer off the ball and throws it to the corner.

35 ‘Boumous is clutching his hamstring … and that doesn’t look good. The heat rises and so does tempers!

32 ‘The Gurpreet parade thwarted ATK Mohun Bagan’s counterattack. Roshan’s cheeky cross and cross at the other end of the pitch was cleared by the ATKMB defense and Boumous grabbed the loose ball. The skilled Frenchman dribbled past three men before letting go of Krishna at the other end. Krishna, under tremendous pressure from his marker, had a shot on target that was deflected. Boumous was in the right place to set the rebound at the right time, but Gurpreet blocked his shot remarkably well.

30 ‘Nothing to separate the two teams after half an hour. Williams takes the ball on the left flank and makes his way to the box before ripping one with his right shoe, but it’s a routine for Gurpeet.

26 ‘A free kick from Cleiton straight at Amrinder and Alan Costa only needs the slightest connection, but it goes too far for him.

24 ‘What a peach ball from Boumus! He turns the ball on his left foot and rolls a stunning long ball for Krishna. The Fijian missed the ball by only a meter or two. Great vision from Boumus.

21 ‘Boumoooooous … that was close! The Frenchman brushes aside Suresh’s challenge and skips Sarthak before unleashing a violent left foot. Gurpreet faces the challenge and parries it. First real chance of the game!

20 ‘Chance for Ajay Chhetri. Right sees Udanta Singh. Cross for Bengaluru.

18 ‘Bengaluru’s passing game is sharp, but the team has repeatedly lost the ball in and around the attacking third. Chhetri received little or no replenishment in the first 18 minutes.

16 ‘Boumous, who played a key role in Mumbai City FC’s ISL triumph with three goals and seven assists last season, is now playing for ATKMB. He falls back and tries to orchestrate the game from the depths of the ATKMB half.

12 ‘The opening minutes were intense, with some good quick passes and strong duels. None of the goalkeepers have worried so far.

10 ‘First yellow card of the game and Cleiton Silva (Bengalurus) is put on goal for a foul on Kotal.

7 ‘Chance for Krishna and Williams.

4 ‘A bang from Jayesh Rane from around 35 yards … Rane enters the game with confidence after scoring the winning goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Club Eagles.

3′ The Mariners started at the beginning and pushed Bengaluru FC deep into their half.

1 ‘START! Bengaluru FC starts in its white away jerseys from right to left.

« Our last game was only two days ago so it was a brief respite for the team. It’s not really an advantage, but I can see the glass either half empty or half full and I choose to have it half full.

« After the win there was a good atmosphere and positive energy in the team. We have to be very sharp against ATK Mohun Bagan because I expect an aggressive game, « said Pezzaiuoli at the pre-game press conference.

ATK Mohun Bagan, which is due to the victorious 2019-20 I-League campaign of the former Mohun Bagan, who qualified for the group stage of the competition, have made some strong additions since losing to Mumbai City FC in the 2020-21 Indian Super League final. « ATK Mohun Bagan likes to play a lot of long passes, grabbing the second ball and pushing high on the court, which requires a different approach from us foreigners (Hugo Boumous) among others rem.

« That shows that they want to win the Indian Super League and the AFC Cup. We have to be in a good mood, show good concentration and I’m sure we have a chance to win tomorrow, « added Pezzaiuoli.

« I know we haven’t kicked for a while and of course our players have had plenty of rest, but that doesn’t mean we have a clear advantage. I don’t believe in that philosophy as I think the team that shows more desire will do so. « Win tomorrow, » he said.

Jayesh Rane scored the only goal of the game when the Blues hit the club Eagles defeated, and with just three games in the group stage, goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu said the task at hand required focus and dedication from every corner.

« It’s true that this time around, because there are fewer games in the group are to be contested. But it is still difficult and we have to be focused. It was important for us to get into the group stage because we want to do it. « Good in Asia, as a club, » said Gurpeet.
