Over on Twitter there seems to be a bit of frustration with the federal government’s « graphic and confrontational » ad campaign, in which a young woman gasps in hospital and is going to be walking all over Sydney starting tonight.

This one Display should be taken out of the air immediately. Today in Sydney a young girl with Covid – about the same age as the actor in the ad – is fighting for her life on a ventilator. This insensitive ad can only worry your family and friends. It is misunderstood in every way. @JoshButler https://t.co/9FfT9jJNDH

« Book your vaccination ». The woman in this ad doesn’t look old enough to be eligible for the wider vaccination program. What an insult. https://t.co/XHVEQBzvEY

This government can’t even tell us when exactly the general vaccination program will open to people under 40. What can scare tactics do here other than desperation (and anger)?

The vast majority of Australians under 40 are not eligible for the only vaccine that they have been repeatedly told is the only one they can safely get because we don’t have enough of it. I can’t even use it. https://t.co/BAGaxD7Daj

The worsening Covid outbreak in Sydney has increased by 77 cases, leading to Australia’s first locally acquired coronavirus death in 2021. New South Wales Prime Minister Gladys Berejiklian warned she will be « shocked » if daily cases don’t exceed 100 tomorrow.

Kerry Chant, Chief Health Officer, is so concerned about the outbreak’s progress Sydney that she asks anyone who has already received a dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to speak to their doctor about shortening the interval between the first and second dose from three months to six weeks – the admission, « a bit long-term « Sacrificing protection » was justified.

A 90-year-old Southwest Sydney woman whom authorities believe had not been vaccinated died in Liverpool hospital on Saturday hours after returning a positive result.

The woman caught the virus in her home from a family member – one of 50 of the 77 cases announced on Sunday that involve close family members of existing Covid- Cases acted.

Authorities are concerned that 33 of the 77 new cases in the community were contagious, with many of the new cases announced on Sunday being « fairly historic five, six or seven days ago » between initial infection and return of a positive test.

If you haven’t seen the Wimbledon final last night and are just now looking at the news, here is a match report from my colleague Tumaini Carayol who was at Wimbledon.

Wheelchair tennis king Dylan Alcott has defended his Wimbledon quad singles crown confidently and is getting closer and closer to a potential « Golden Slam » of titles in the calendar year.

The creative mind behind the iconic « Grim Reaper » campaign, which is believed to have successfully raised awareness of the dangers of AIDS in the 1980s, waved one of the federal government’s vaccine advertisements.

Siimon Reynolds called the government’s « Arm Yourself » campaign, released today, in an interview with ABC as a « very weak » campaign.

Reynolds criticized the ad, particularly when compared to the Sydney-specific ad that will appear later tonight and show a young woman gasping for breath in a hospital bed.

He said the ad showing the risk of disease from Covid is « ten times better » than the self-arming campaign because it shows that Covid can be bad and painful.

Here is the « graphic and confrontational » ad that Colonel Lt. Gen. John Frewen and Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly just announced.

The ads will only run in Sydney starting tonight and are meant to be people show the serious illness they risk if they do not adhere to lockdown restrictions in town.

Before you look at it, it is important to reiterate that this ad is confrontational so some of you may be viewed as feel uncomfortable.

The ad will run separately from the vaccine advertising campaign “Arm yourself”, which the federal government also launched today.

05:39 a.m. BST05: 39

Lt. Gen. John Frewen was asked for further clarification on how much the « arm yourself » vaccination campaign cost taxpayers.

He did not provide a specific number and said the cost of the campaign was this year Spending $ 40 million on vaccine advertising was taken into account.

He said other ads are being worked on, including specific campaigns targeting indigenous and remote communities.

Read and even see the « Arm Yourself » campaign in this report by my colleague Amy Remeikis today.

The Vaccination Task Force Commander, Lt. Gen. John Frewen, was asked how many elderly care workers received their first and second dose of Covid vaccine and whether providers have been approved to vaccinate their own staff.

Frewen said « more than a third received their first dose » but couldn’t provide any further details about vaccination in elderly care.

Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly endorsed a request from NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant to people in Sydney who have received a dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to ask their doctor to reduce the interval to six before their second dose Shortening weeks.

Kelly acknowledged that shortening the interval period reduced long-term protection from disease from the virus, and said the new interval recommendations only apply to people in the greater Sydney area.

The topic is risk versus benefit. Anyone outside of Sydney that sticks to 12 weeks is a pretty straightforward thing from the national picture. For those in Sydney, it’s licensed from 4-12 weeks, so this should be a conversation with their GP.

We will speak to New South Wales Health. It gives you better protection now, two doses are really important. Anyone who is due for a second dose, please do not hesitate.

A geriatric nurse from the Covid-linked SummitCare home in Baulkham Hills, Sydney is in hospital and is « seriously ill. »

Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly said that six residents of the home have Covid , removed from the facility and taken to the hospital to protect other residents.

While five of the residents are fully vaccinated, the sixth has not been vaccinated and Kelly said he « can report that she is doing pretty bad right now, seriously in the hospital ».

The federal government has launched a « graphic and confrontational » advertising campaign starting tonight in Sydney to warn residents of the serious illness they could develop if they break lockdown restrictions.

Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly said the graphic advertising campaign was separate from the Armor Yourself campaign launched today. Kelly said:

The virus moves with people. The other clear message is that we can all get Covid-19 and some of us, as we have seen in Sydney over the past few days, can get serious illness. So this is not a time for complacency, it is not a time for frustration, it is a time to actually acknowledge this and take on that responsibility for yourself, your family and the community.

Based on that, a new Australian Government ad will run tonight. It’s pretty graphic. We are only doing this because of the situation in Sydney and it will be in Sydney.

The news will be clear. Stay home, get tested, and sign up for a vaccination. They are the three messages in this ad, so watch out, it’s pretty graphic and meant to be graphic, it’s really supposed to bring that important message home. «

Vaccine rollout leader, Lt. Gen. John Frewen, said, the ad will be « vivid and confrontational » and run « very specific to Sydney for the time being, » but said a similar strategy could be used to address other outbreaks elsewhere in the future.

« If the circumstances so As we are currently thinking in Sydney, we will hopefully help people understand the very dire consequences of Covid and bring a sense of urgency to the places where we need it, « said Frewen.

Paul Kelly confirms that the 90-year-old woman who died of Covid yesterday in southwest Sydney is Australia’s first death from a locally acquired case in 2021.

We know the Woman infected with Covid in a family member’s home and was not vaccinated, and Kelly can now shed a little more light on her circumstances:

« I emphasize, this is neither someone who has been to an elderly care facility nor someone who who had the chance to get vaccinated. This is a terrible thing for this person, their family and certainly my condolences to this special family now. ”

5.02 a.m. BST05: 02

The chief physician Paul Kelly has only just risen and is now giving a national Covid update.

The recent attempt by the Morrison administration to run a vaccination campaign urging Australians to « arm » has failed, and even the opposition leader quipped that it was difficult for the nation’s satirists to send them up.

« Shaun Micallef is going to have a very difficult time getting this ad out, » he said during an interview on ABC’s Insiders program.

« What we need is the expertise that Australia is always doing so well has made. We were the best in the world in the campaign against AIDS, we did very well drunk driving, but after 18 months, if that’s the best, they have to come back to the drawing board, ”said Albanese.

The campaign includes different biceps and urges people to “arm” themselves with the vaccine to protect their family, colleagues and community.

Victoria has offered contact tracing assistance and other resources to New South Wales to help contain the Covid outbreak in Sydney.

Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews said he had made offers to Gladys Berejiklian and said that he, although he hadn’t heard, expected it to be because NSW authorities were considering what resources Victoria could offer that could help the most.

Andrews said it is unlikely that Melbourne-based contact tracers without knowledge of Sydney would help NSW health officials. Instead, he expected Victorian contact seekers with certain language skills to do the most to help the NSW authorities. Andrews said:

If there is a problem in Sydney, there is a problem everywhere … we all have an interest. ”

Andrews added that he thought the Victorians might be the biggest Would be interested in stopping the spread of Delta in Australia « because we gave the most ».
