The Azkals failed to reach the final at the last Suzuki Cup in 2018 after losing 4-2 to eventual champions Vietnam. The Philippines will have a mix of veterans and youngsters from the Azkals Development Team at this year’s Suzuki Cup. The squad is led by experienced skipper Stephan Schrock, who played his 48th international match. Returned Azkal pillars are Patrick Reichelt, Angel Guirado, Iain Ramsay, Daisuke Sato, Martin Steuble, Amani Aguinaldo, Kevin Ingreso, Mike Ott and Kenshiro Daniels. Die-hard striker Bienvenido Marañon makes his highly anticipated Azkals debut alongside fellow newcomers Quincy Kammeraad, Sandro Reyes, Matthew Custodio, Jespher Nylholm, Dennis Chung, Harry Foll and Oskari Kekkonen. Also in the roster are Kevin Rey Mendoza, Bernd Schipmann, Justin Baas, Mar Diano, Yrick Gallantes, Christian Rontini, Jefferson Tabinas, Oliver Bias and Amin Nazari. The Azkals meet a team from Singapore, whose players mainly play in the Singapore Premier League. Ikhsan Fandi has the best references in the squad. The 22-year-old striker plays for Jerv in the Norwegian First Division. The Lions will also field veterans such as skipper Harris Harun, defenseman Safuwan Baharudin and goalkeeper Hassan Sunny. The Philippines were also grouped with Singapore at the last Suzuki Cup. The Philippines beat Singapore 1-0 with a goal from Reichelt in the 78th minute. In the other game of the day in Group A, Myanmar will play Timor-Leste.
