Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia has never hidden the personal whims that determine the designs he and his team develop in the fashion house, channeling elements of youth and Gvasalia’s whimsical gear that are essential for a luxury home this one Order of magnitude are atypical. So it’s no surprise that Gvasalia worked again with metal band Rammstein to create a capsule collection and curated playlist.
Gvasalia first teamed up with the nearly three-decade-old group when he joined Vetements but the new partnership goes one step further. The genderless limited edition capsule is on the one hand more expansive, with many washed black layers, hats and bags that are decorated with Rammstein’s logo, and a previously unpublished outtake of a memorable photo shoot with Gottfried Helnwein, which gives the item of clothing the feeling of an upscale merch. This corresponds to the accompanying photo shoot, during which three happy super fans are outfitted in the new duds and show the luxury equipment alongside their huge Rammstein collections.
In addition, Rammstein has joined Balenciaga’s Apple Music playlist program, which has 30 songs over includes two hours of music. It’s a varied affair that includes tracks from German new wave group Ideal, producer Vegyn, singer / songwriter Sharon Van Etten and Thom Yorke. Of course there are also a lot of industrial bands, including Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and Rammstein’s own « Sehnsucht », which inspired Vetements’ original collaboration.
Rammstein’s curated playlist for Balenciaga is now available on Apple Music. The limited edition collaborative apparel can be pre-ordered on the Balenciaga website and in stores around the world.
