Bangladeshi coach Russell Domingo said Sunday he could « not understand » Australia’s strict COVID-19 protocols which forced wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim to miss the upcoming Twenty20 series in Dhaka.
In At a virtual press conference before the first of five T20 games in Dhaka on Tuesday, Domingo asked why players had to be in a bio-safe zone at least 10 days before the series.
« I can’t follow the strict rules Australia has put in place (It’s) very disappointing how they went about it, « said the South African.
» But you see, we want to play against the best team in the world and it’s an opportunity for one or two younger players or Fringe players to play and I’m sure they can.
« No mushfiqur is certainly a loss to us, but we have a big squad and some good players to replace it. »
Mushfiqur returned from Ba on July 14th ngladesch’s tour of Zimbabwe but was then in contact with his parents, who tested positive for the virus, officials said.Their positive results meant he was the July 20 cutoff date for participating in bio-bubbles They added.
Officials said last week they tried to cut the Mushfiqur deadline to eight days, but the Australian medical team disagreed.
The inaugural batsman wicketkeeper Liton Das also sits out of the series for failing to meet protocol, officials added.
Both teams and the match officials are staying in the same hotel, which was closed to the public from July 20th.
The games are taking place on August 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 9th at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Team would do well in the world.
« It g there are no major injury concerns. Soumya Sarkar is recovering from a light exposure he brings from Zimbabwe, but I’m pretty confident that he will be fit, « he said.
» Mitchell Starc and (Josh) Hazlewood are good bowlers and we are have looked at some of their recordings. But at the end of the day you will play the ball, not the man. «
He added that Bangladesh needs to put away all » bad balls « from the Australian star bowlers.
