President Biden announced late Wednesday afternoon his intention to nominate Biniam Gebre, a former housing and urban development officer under the Obama administration, to head the Federal Procurement Policy Bureau.

Gebre is currently Senior Managing Director at Accenture Federal Services. During his tenure at the HUD, he served as the Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Secretary, and Federal Housing Administration Agent. After leaving HUD and before joining Accenture, he worked as a partner at the management consultancy Oliver Wyman; Early in his career, he was a partner at McKinsey, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Gebre “Over the past two decades has helped dozens of organizations in both the public and private sectors resolve management, operational and technology issues from the To solve agriculture, banking, and artificial intelligence, ”said the White House announcement. « He served in the Obama-Biden administration in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he focused on access to credit for low-income families, FHA financial health, and public housing revitalization. » If confirmed, Gebre would play a leading role in managing the government’s ambitious procurement targets to combat climate change and promote racial justice. OFPP is part of the White House’s Office of Management and Budget.

Biden has yet to nominate an OMB director after Neera Tanden withdrew her confirmation in March. He is the only president in recent history who does not have an OMB director when he is inaugurated or shortly thereafter.
