Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin will send its first crew into space on July 20th and will offer the winner one of the seats in an online auction, the company announced on Wednesday.

The journey takes a total of ten minutes, of which four passengers spend over the Karman Line, which marks the recognized boundary between the earth’s atmosphere and space.

« We have perfected our ability to take off, land and close repeat, « says a video that accompanies the announcement.

The reusable suborbital missile system is named after Alan Shepard, who was the first American in space sixty years ago on Wednesday.

New Shepard has successfully completed 15 unscrewed test runs from its facility in the Guadalupe Mountains to west -Texas were launched from.

After take off, the capsule, which carries up to six crew members, separates from its booster and then spends four minutes at an altitude of more than 100 kilometers. During this time, those on board are weightless and can watch the curvature of Earth from space.

The booster autonomously lands on a pad two miles (3.2 kilometers) from the launch site, and the capsule swims at three large parachutes return to the surface, which they lower to about a mile per hour upon landing.

Blue Origin announced that the bid would be bid on May 19th ahead of a live online auction in the final stages on July 12th when the winner is announced, the seal will be unsealed.

The proceeds go to the company foundation Club for the Future, which aims to inspire future generations to pursue careers in MINT.
