BOSTON – Jaylen Brown hit a career high of 50 points, bringing the Boston Celtics from 14 point deficit at the end of the fourth quarter to a 116-111 win in extra time against Orlando Magic on Sunday night.

Brown scored 21 points in the fourth quarter and then opened OT with his fifth 3-pointer of the game. Brown, whose previous career high was against the Knicks 46 on October 20, also finished 11 rebounds as the Celtics won their second place in a row after three straight defeats.

Marcus Smart added 17 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for the Celtics who needed an 11-2 run on the track to force overtime. Dennis Schroder had 21 points and seven assists.

Terrence Ross scored 33 for Magic, who beat Boston 35:20 in the third quarter. They finished the quarter on a 20-4 run to take the 77-65 lead and were 96-82 ahead, just over 4 minutes before regular time.

After Brown on a three-point – Had missed the game attempt with 1:40 remaining free throw, he drove to a layup to tie it at 98 with 38 seconds remaining. He added another layup that briefly brought Boston 100-98, 30 seconds back, but Tim Frazier tied it again and the game was decided in extra time.

Both teams were without their top scorers. Cole Anthony was out of the Magic with a sprained right ankle, and Boston-based Jayson Tatum missed his fourth game in a row after being listed on the COVID-19 health and safety protocol last week.

Gary Harris scored 23 points and Wendell Carter Jr. ended up 15 points and 16 rebounds for Orlando. Frazier scored 11 of his 14 points in the third quarter.

The Celtics were leading 45:42 at halftime, despite losing 14 balls and almost disappearing a 14-point lead before half-time.

Celtics: Center Robert Williams, who had his first career triple double on Friday with 10 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds in a win over Phoenix, fell with a sprain of the right big toe. … Although Tatum’s status was increased to « Overhaul for Return to Competition », he stayed off the line-up. … Schröder returned after missing four games on the protocol list. … Guard Romeo Langford was absent due to a non-COVID illness and guard Brodric Thomas due to lower back pain. … Center Enes Freedom is still on the protocol list.
