Dec. 15 (UPI) – Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and head coach Kevin Stefanski tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and could miss the team’s week 15 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The team announced Monday morning that Stefanski and running backs coach Ryan Cordell tested positive. Sources later told NFL Network, Cleveland.com and ESPN that Mayfield also got a positive test result.

December 15 (UPI) – Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and head coach Kevin Stefanski tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and could miss the team’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15.
The team announced on Monday morning that Stefanski and running backs coach Ryan Cordell had tested positive. Sources later told NFL Network, Cleveland.com and ESPN that Mayfield also got a positive test result.
The Browns said Stefanski was vaccinated, received a booster, and is now in self-isolation. The team added six players from its active roster to the reserve / COVID-19 list on Tuesday and held virtual team meetings.
Stefanski and Mayfield, who are also vaccinated, have to present two negative test results every 24 hours to be able to return to the field this weekend. The Browns said they were in the process of running tests for players.
« He is feeling fine and will be virtually continuing his head coaching duties as we prepare for the Las Vegas Raiders game on Saturday, » said the Browns of Stefanski.
« Shouldn’t coach Stefanski until Saturday submit two negative tests, special teams coordinator Mike Priefer will act as deputy head coach and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt will act as play caller in Saturday’s game, « the team said.
Stefanski also tested positive for COVID-19 in January, missing the Browns’ playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on January 10.
The Browns host the Las Vegas Raiders at 4:30 pm. EST Saturday at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. Brown’s runner-up quarterback Case Keenum is expected to start.
The NFL posted a memo to its 32 teams on Monday asking Tier 1 and Tier 2 staff to get a booster vaccination by December 27th to obtain.
The Los Angeles Chargers welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to their first game of week 15 at 8:20 pm. EST Thursday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
