Bunnings customers who have used its click-and-collect services are among the 3.7 million people worldwide whose personal information has been involved in a data breach.
For its part, Bunnings emphasized that the risk for his customers is minimal, as they do not have to enter sensitive personal data about this provider.
Part of its customer data on the FlexBooker planning platform was compromised after a data breach on its AWS servers on December 23rd.
According to Leah Balter, Chief Information Officer of Bunnings: « We are aware of a data breach at one of our third-party booking providers that may include the details of some of our customers who have booked a time slot using our Drive & pick-up service.
Balter said the company continues to work with the third-party vendor to better understand the details of how this breach occurred and the processes in place to resolve it. « And we’re going directly to any customer whose name or email address may have been accessed. We’ve also posted an update on this incident on our website. »
« The customer information passed on via this third party provider is limited to the full name and email address only. Bunnings customers are not required to enter sensitive personal information such as passwords, mobile phone numbers or credit card information via this provider and are confident that none of these categories has been compromised by customer data. «
She said Bunnings takes the security of our customers ‘and team members’ personal information very seriously and will thoroughly investigate this incident.
In a post, the scheduling platform reported that her account on Amazon’s AWS servers was compromised, which led to it that she was « temporarily unable to service customer accounts and prevented customers from accessing their data ».
According to FlexBooker, the data extracted from the servers included first and last names, email addresses and telephone numbers . Credit card information and other payment card numbers were reportedly inaccessible.
In response to the outage, FlexBooker said it worked closely with Amazon to restore a backup and was able to restore operations within 12 hours. FlexBooker said it continues to work with Amazon to understand what happened.
FlexBooker is online booking and scheduling software used by brands like GoDaddy and Chipotle.
