CM – Catbird Seat Still Provides Uncertainty for Jazz – KSL Sports

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Jazz has its most enviable record in the past two decades as it enters the final eight regular season games. With top 3 placement almost guaranteed, the future of the playoffs is uncertain.

Popular data analytics website FiveThirtyEight continues to project the jazz to break the top record in the NBA, a game ahead of the Phoenix Suns . However, BasketballReference cannot predict the team’s health or the desire to rest the players for the final two weeks of the season.

The Jazz are affiliated with the Suns for the best record in the NBA, but would due to the Season tie-breakers drop to second place. They sit three games ahead of the up-and-coming Denver Nuggets, a team they’ll face on Friday without All-Star Donovan Mitchell, in a game whose winner will receive the year-end tiebreaker.

Of the three teams, jazz has by far the easiest remaining schedule of the group, but lacks a set schedule of when they will be completely healthy. These remaining questions prevented the team from looking too far into the playoff future.

« We certainly weren’t in this particular situation, » said Jazz coach Quin Snyder of the team’s beneficial seeding. « I think there is still uncertainty as to whether you will go into your fifth or sixth and second or third. »

If the playoffs started today, jazz would be included in the second seed but wouldn’t know Who they played against in the first round until the postseason play-in tournament was held.

The teams with seventh and eighth starting positions would have to face each other, with the winner receiving the higher starting value. Then, after the ninth and tenth seeded teams competed against each other, the winner would be given the opportunity to play the loser of the seventh and eighth seeded matchups.

With just over a month in the season, who will @utahjazz likely to face in the playoffs?

If Jazz were to drop to third place in a first round matchup with the sixth seed, it is unlikely who it will face today, who it is expected to face in mid-May.

Currently the Los Angeles Lakers own the West’s sixth seed, but have a three-way relationship with the Portland Trail Blazers and Dallas Mavericks (36-28).

Based on previous experience, Snyder only knows good how difficult it can be to manipulate the final games of the season to dictate a playoff opponent.

« A year we had a 0.1 percent chance of playing against Houston and in the end we spi elt, « said Snyder. « You really can’t control who you’re going to play. »

Jazz starts its final push with a series of two games against the San Antonio Spurs before lining up the nuggets and rockets, then heading out where they will play three of their final four games.

Regardless of their final seed, Snyder said he realizes that jazz won’t have an easy way through the playoffs.

« Because the West is so good and so good there is always this collection of teams and seeding can change in a couple of games, « said Snyder.

» I think you just have to focus on what you can do and those other things as they say, will take care of themselves. «
