CM – China’s 66-qubit 2D quantum computer sets new processing record

Beat Google's Sycamore processor.

The University of Science and Technology of China has just reached a new high in computer processing.

The « Zuchongzhi – One » competes with Google’s Sycamore project, a 54-qubit processor that does computations that today’s normal computers would take 10,000 years to accomplish, and uses a programmable 2D quantum computer with 66 qubits. Limiting the zuchongzhi – one to 56 qubits – the computer was able to perform a task 100 times more difficult than that of Google’s Sycamore. Additionally, it was revealed that the next best computers would take about eight years to complete the 72 hour task.

This new reveal all hints at the proliferation of quantum computing, where these powerful machines will transform a number of sectors including the pharmaceutical, financial, robotic AI, and cybersecurity industries, to name a few.
