CM – Couple burned in gas explosion in new café in Qld

A gas explosion in a newly built cafe on the Gold Coast left two workers with horrific burns.

The two were testing gas devices in the cafe when they were caught in a lightning explosion.

There was no fire , but the gas explosion left a 26-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman with burns on many of their bodies.

« When they were testing the gas system, there was a lightning explosion, » said Ambulance Officer Andre Gollop.

« Both the male and female inmates received rather severe burns to their arms, legs, torso and face. »

Both are in serious but stable condition and have been taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Police have evacuated the cafe on the Robina Energy Circuit and firefighters are on site to investigate what went wrong.
