TURIN: Juan Cuadrado’s stoppage-time goal gave Juventus a 1-0 win over 10-man Fiorentina in Serie A on Saturday when the Turin club ended a three-game league run without a win.

Substitute Colombian defeated goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano at the near post with a powerful shot in the final minutes to win, despite a poor performance from Juve, in which there was no shot on goal until the 86th minute.

Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic’s 73rd-minute dismissal brought the home side to life as Federico Chiesa fired a shot off the crossbar and Alvaro Morata ruled out an offside goal before Cuadrado broke through on death.

« We are a team and a family, we have to fight for our teammates until the end. »

It was the 200th victory of coach Massimiliano Allegri as Juventus coach in all competitions. After Giovanni Trapattoni (319 wins) and Marcello Lippi (227), he is only the third coach to have achieved this feat since 1929/30.

But the 54-year-old’s team did little to indicate an imminent change in form after a disappointing performance.

With the result, Juventus is in eighth place with 18 points, level with Fiorentina above.

Two consecutive defeats to midfielder Sassuolo and Hellas Verona put Juventus in crisis ahead of rivals from Florence’s visit, although a midweek Champions League win against Zenit St. Petersburg was a positive sign.

There was no obvious improvement from the hosts in the first half, however, as Fiorentina had the best chance of a poor start to the game when Riccardo Saponara shot over the goal from 12 meters.

Der Milenkovic’s expulsion proved to be a turning point when the Serb received a second yellow card for a clumsy fight against Chiesa, pushing Juve forward for the final quarter of the game.

Chiesa slammed a half-volley from the underside of the bar and Morata sank a cross just to prevent an offside position and the old lady finally registered her first shot on target when Chiesa’s shot was struck by Terracciano after four minutes of the remaining Standard time.

Cuadrado, who came on 11 minutes before the end, made the difference with a piece of individual skill, skipped Cristiano Biraghi and shot a low shot home.

On Saturday before, Spezia climbed out of the relegation zone as Jacopo Sala scored a 1-0 victory over midfielder Torino with his goal.

Atalanta beat Cagliari, bottom of the table, 2-1 in the late game and moved up to fourth thanks to goals from Mario Pasalic and Duvan Zapata in the first half.
