Pat Cummins has been named Australia’s 47th male test captain, a huge break with tradition for the top job in Australian cricket.
Former captain Steve Smith will serve as his deputy on a new leadership team that to be installed following the resignation of Tim Paine last week.
Cummins was the overwhelming favorite to succeed Paine after being named sole vice captain 12 months ago.
It will be Smith’s first official leadership position to since he was removed from his captain following the ball manipulation scandal in 2018.
