To say that Curtis Samuel’s first year with the Washington Football team was disappointing is an understatement. On Monday, Washington eliminated the wide receiver along with JD McKissic’s running back for Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
For Samuel it is the ninth missed game this season. The first eight missed games were related to a groin injury that required core muscle surgery in June. He will miss Tuesday’s game with a new hamstring injury.
Samuel didn’t practice at all during the week. Even the two-day postponement did not bring him anything. According to Washington head coach Ron Rivera, Samuel reported sore muscles in his hamstring after losing to the Dallas Cowboys last week.
He arrived in Washington this year with high expectations. In March, he signed a three-year contract for $ 34.5 million. He reunited with his former Carolina head coach, Ron Rivera.
Samuel also got the chance to return to the offensive system he had played in his first three years in Carolina.
Unfortunately, his groin injury persisted. He was forced to miss OTAs, much of the training camp, and all three preseason games. He started the regular season with a three-game stint in the injured reserve.
Since then he has played short distances. His first stretch lasted two games before suffering a setback with his groin that kept him out of the next five games. He returned in week 12, playing with a snap count for the last three games. He didn’t get more than two goals in any of the games.
In the first year, Curtis Samuel will raise nearly $ 13.4 million through the base salary and signing of guarantees. Still, he’s only produced six catches for 27 yards in 14 games.
