South Africa vs. Venezuela Davis Cup Group II Playoff will be played September 18-19 at the Historic West Side Tennis Club.
FOREST HILLS, NY – The West Side Tennis Club, the iconic and historic former venue for the US Open, will host the Davis Cup for the first time since 1959 when it hosts the South Africa vs. Venezuela Davis Cup of Rakuten World Group II Series 18-19. September 2021.
The best-of-five match series will be played the weekend after the end of the US Open on a hard court in the 98-year-old historic 13,000-seat horseshoe stadium, where the finals of the US championships and the US Open will be played were held from 1923 to 1977. The stadium was last venue of the Davis Cup in 1959, when Rod Laver, Roy Emerson and Neale Fraser Australia with a 3-2 victory over the US team under the leadership of Alex Olmedo, Butch Buchholz and Barry McKay to the Davis Cup title.
The top South African players in the ATP rankings are Kevin Anderson, the former US Open and Wimbledon finalist who reached a career high of # 5 and is now # 1. 75 is, # 49 Lloyd Harris, who last defeated Rafael Nadal this week in Washington, DC, and former Australian Open and Wimbledon doubles finalist Raven Klaasen, who ranks 23rd in doubles. Following an agreement between the two national associations, South Africa will be the home country and Venezuela will be the host country for this World Group II game on neutral ground 1981 USA vs. Czechoslovakia Davis Cup quarterfinals at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows with John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl.

On the first day of play there are two best-of-three-set single matches from 11 a.m. and on the second day of play, also from 11 a.m., the reverse two best-of-three-set single matches and one best-of-three-set Double match. The winner remains in the Davis Cup group II for the Davis Cup 2022 campaign, two levels below the Davis Cup world group that determines the Davis Cup champion in the Davis Cup world finals in Madrid.
