CM – Death in custody: Man, 50, dies in Hakea Prison in Perth


A man has died after being found unconscious in his cell at Hakea Prison in Perth, the circumstances being described as not suspicious.

Prison guards and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the 50-year-old prisoner after he was discovered Monday afternoon.

The inmate was found alone and unconscious in his cell in the segregation unit of the prison around 2:15 pm, according to The West Australian.

« Preliminary reports indicate that there were no suspicious circumstances « The Justice Department of Western Australia said in a statement on Tuesday.

 » In accordance with all deaths in custody, WA police have investigated and are preparing a report for a coronal investigation. « 

Hakea in den southeastern suburbs of Perth is WA’s premier high security facility for male prisoners who are in custody or have just been sentenced.
