The multimillionaire PR mogul and Tipperary hurling sponsor Declan Kelly has stepped down as CEO and chairman of Teneo, the strategy firm he co-founded.

A drunken incident follows at a high profile Charity event in the US last month.

Teneo’s Board of Directors today released a statement saying it regrets to announce that Declan has announced his decision to step down as chairman and Kelly to Kelly Company CEO to step down.

It went on to thank Mr. Kelly, brother of Labor Chief Alan Kelly, for his « leadership and dedication over the past decade in building Teneo into the world’s leading consulting firm for CEOs. » .

Mr. Kelly said in a statement: “On May 2nd, I made an accidental, public, and embarrassing mistake for which I have taken full responsibility and mic h apologized to those directly affected as well as to my colleagues and customers.

« In order to protect the employees of Teneo and its customers and with the strong support of my family, I have decided to leave the company and step down as Chairman and CEO . « 

According to a statement released last Thursday by a spokesman, Mr. Kelly became » intoxicated and behaved inappropriately toward women and men « at a cocktail party for a Global Citizen fundraising concert on May 2nd.

The Event, which was led by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and featured Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez, raised funds for a global Covid vaccine campaign.

Mr. Kelly has also stepped down from his board seat at Global Citizen, a charity working to combat the Armut chaired by Chris Stadler, managing partner of CVC Capital Partners, the majority shareholder onary from Teneo.

On Saturday, General Motors, one of Teneo’s largest corporate customers, cut ties with the company.

Details of the events at the post-event cocktail party, which also included Foo Fighters, Eddie Vedder and J Balvin , remain sparse.

Sources say Mr. Kelly and throughout the company have accepted that his actions would definitely have been inappropriate.
