CM – Diallo doubles Metz

Habib Diallo threw in two expertly scored goals when Strasbourg swept Metz aside 3-0 at the Stade de la Meinau and moved on to 10th

Metz came into the Derby du Grand-Est as 18th in the table and without a win in the first five games. Coach Frédéric Antonetti hoped the derby would give his team the perfect tonic to get their campaign on track, but the start of the game was far from reassuring.

The atmosphere at the Stade de la Meinau was electrifying and fans didn’t have to wait long for the game’s first action. Metz goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja brought down Strasbourg’s Dimitri Liénard to make the simplest decision of the evening for referee Éric Wattellier with a penalty for the home side.

Last year’s top scorer Ludovic Ajorque stepped on and sent Oukidja in the wrong direction to score the scorer for the Alsatian (6th).
Adrien Thomasson then missed a golden chance to expand Strasbourg’s lead, expropriated Metz captain Dylan Bronn and shot, only against Oukidja, directly at the Algerian international to let Metz off the hook (9th).

Despite Antonetti’s efforts to regroup his players from the sideline, Metz showed a nervous streak and struggled with the home side’s attack as he was in constant possession of the ball and crumbled under Strasbourg’s pressing game.

Metz’s new signing Nicolas de Préville worked tirelessly, hunting down lost causes and trying to make something of the limited service he was receiving, but just as Metz was starting to find snippets of possession they got with one Hit hit. Former Metz striker Habib Diallo pulled past Bronn and shot just past Oukidja to put Strasbourg in the lead with two goals.

As the game slipped away, Metz showed more aggression and intent – but without to offer a real threat in the last third. Strasbourg, on the other hand, always looked dangerous on counterattacks and Diallo again used the defensive weakness of his former employer with another flat right foot to end the fight before half time (40th).

Metz stabilized the ship in the second half and began to find possession in promising areas. Substitute Lamine Gueye tested Strasbourg goalkeeper Mats Sels for the first time with a free kick from the edge of the penalty area (50.)

Strasbourg coach Julién Stephan was able to watch his team’s performance in the second half relatively relaxed, as the home side controlled the game, without facing the same threat as in the first half. Two-goal hero Habib Diallo was hit in the calf and replaced by Kévin Gamiero (68th) and the former PSG man was quickly in the thick of it when his shot was blocked by Oukidja (73rd) with a header a minute later .

Bronn would have been behind for Metz with a great header at the end Can still narrowly downsize, but unfortunately for the guests an equally good parade by Sels (76th). Metz pushed forward and Kiki Kouyaté hit the post with a great shot (80th) when Antonetti’s team showed their intention to end the game better than they had started.

The damage that was done in the first half was too great for Metz to turn around as Strasbourg deservedly scored three important points ahead of the game in the 7th round in Lens on Wednesday.

The former Metz forward pursued his old club with two excellent degrees to put the game to bed in the first half. The Metz defense had no answer to Diallo’s relentless threat as the Senegalese international scored his first goals of the season. Diallo seems to have found his top scorer boots for Julién Stephan’s side at just the right time as they are showing promising form after a difficult start Have Ligue 1 Uber Eats. Frédéric Antonetti’s team seemed unconfident and made way too many defensive mistakes that contributed to their own downfall. The fiery Corsican will know that he still has a lot to do to change the fortunes of his team as soon as possible with Metz’s next game, the visit of championship leaders Paris Saint-Germain in the 7th round on Wednesday.
