The Seattle Seahawks recipient, DK Metcalf, ran 10.37 seconds in his 100-meter run and finished last in a nine-man field at Sunday’s USATF Golden Games.

NBC sports analyst Ato Boldon, who predicted Metcalf could run at his best against 10.6, said Metcalf had “a phenomenal one Job done ”. A 10.16 would have qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials. « Of course, [qualifying for trials] was always my goal, » said Metcalf, who trained for two to three months. “I really think and think I had a really good chance of qualifying.”
Metcalf didn’t sound like he was going to be chasing a Trials qualifier at another spring meeting. He said he had a mini camp to prepare for. On Sunday, a 10.37 finished 84th in the US that year.

The news that Metcalf has entered the 100 m was announced on Tuesday. Established U.S. sprinters were skeptical that he would be competitive but respected that he signed up for a meetup. Other NFL players have said they have « track speed » but never supported by running out of blocks.
« If he wants to run, he can run, » said 200-meter world champion Noah Lyles on Saturday. “Be ready to get your bum kicked. … You go against people who train to run for almost eight months a year. «

Metcalf made his intentions clear last October after sparking a discussion on Twitter when he hit a top speed of 22.64 mph while on an interim return, according to @nextgenstats that spanned a total of 114.8 yards.
« For those of you who ask if we have a vacancy on our relay team, » tweeted Metcalf, the US track and field account, « NFL players are welcome to test their speed against real speed at the Olympic Trials next year. «
But you have to qualify for the Olympic Trials by setting a time at a preparatory meeting. On the 100m of men, a 10:05 will automatically qualify for exams. After that, USATF adds the next fastest men to fill the field to around 32.
It will likely take Sub-10s to individualize the US Olympic team at 100m. To make the relay it will likely take under 10.1.
After Usain Bolt resigned in 2017, the US dominated the 100m and could be on the podium in Tokyo.
