CM – Eagles saved from exactly what you would expect

A late goal for Josh Kennedy sealed the West Coast Eagles with an exciting win against the other Richmond Premieres heavyweights.

West Coast denied that Richmond completed consecutive hit-and-run missions from Sydney to Perth on Sunday night. The Eagles beat the Tigers by four points in a classic fight at Optus Stadium.

A week earlier, the Tigers were victorious in a fly-in, fly-out attack on the Dreamtime fight to win the four Premiership Cracking points from Essendon.

With one minute left on Sunday, they looked like they were going to repeat the dose.

The final say, however, was West Coast Champion Josh Kennedy’s steady shoe, who scored his fourth goal from the limit with 37 seconds left.

Then the safe hands of ex-captain Shannon Hurn at the other end, who marked the ball after a shot by Dustin Martin on the defensive six seconds before the end, sealed the result.

The entertaining fight between the seventh (West Coast) and eighth (Richmond) on the ladder has been brought forward by a week to make life easier for the Tigers. The decision was justified only since the Eagles now have a bye before they face the Western Bulldogs.

The win of 13.7 (85) to 12.9 (81) also stopped a small run of the Tigers; For the first time this season, they won their third game in a row.

The WA audience reacted to the unusual window of time on Sunday evening, with 50,834 mostly fanatical Eagles fans showing up. They were rewarded for that.

It’s not that the lead changed often, but only a few goals were scored for most of the game.

When Kennedy scored his fourth goal, it was the first time since the middle of the second quarter that the Eagles took the lead.

Halfway through their last tenure, Shai Bolton scored the Tigers 12th goal and they were leading by 22 points.

But six minutes later West Coast had 3.2 added and the lead was only two points – with more than four minutes on the clock.

The Tigers had their chances late, a few long shots from Martin’s shots on goal marked undisputed deep in the attack of the Tigers.

Another young man, Oscar Allen, nervously shot a 40-yard shot four minutes left after missing two set shots early in the quarter. The lead was again two points.

The West Coast has not suffered any consecutive losses since entering the Optus Stadium in 2018.

After the bombers had beaten them in round 11 with 16 points on the ground, this was closer than ever.

The last time the Eagles lost twice in a row at home was the 14th and 16th rounds of the 2017 season.

It’s a bit strange that the two teams that claimed the last four AFL premierships still only play against each other once per season. Both West Coast and Richmond have been regular finals in recent years.

So it’s no surprise that the Eagles lost the last time at home to Richmond, in round 18 of the 2014 season.

At the quarter time, Richmond striker Jack Riewoldt appeared to be the 24th AFL / VFL player who hit the 700-goal milestone.

He entered that game with 32 goals this season and 696 out of his 295 career games.

Just 15 minutes after the game, he had two of the four goals that he needed, and the Tigers shot out by eight points.

Those two goals were the only two the Tigers scored in the first quarter and the only two Riewoldt scored in the first half.

West Coast’s own spearhead, Josh Kennedy, started two of his own late in the first term, both from Brands within 50m. Kennedy’s second (his 671st career goal in his 271st game) sent the Eagles by a margin of four points in the quarter.

The Tigers’ believers still have at least two weeks to celebrate a Riewoldt milestone next weekend.

The last few years have shown us that the Richmond season is getting longer.

The return of Kane Lambert after his failure since lap 6 with a calf injury will help.

He was instrumental in helping the Tigers maintain a 15-point lead mid-term.

He had 10 touches in each of the first two quarters to lead everyone on the ground , except for Jack Redden (also 20).

In the middle of the second quarter, he was the only person in the stadium who wasn’t surprised by Shai Bolton’s extraordinary attempt to win Tom Barrass for Brand of the Year, 15 points clear / p> Jamaine Jones and Jake Waterman used their two opportunities to reduce the Eagles ???? Half-time deficit to only four points at halftime.

ELBOROUGH’S BEST Eagles: Kennedy, Naitanui, Redden, Hurn, Sheed, Foley. Tiger: Houli, Vlaustin, Lambert, Bolton, Martin, Short, Broad.

OBJECTIVES Eagles: Kennedy 4; Waterman 2, Cripps 2, Allen 2; Naitanui, Jones, Ryan. Tiger: Riewoldt 2, Coleman-Jones 2, Martin 2, Lambert 2; Bolton, Graham, Aarts, Castagna.
