The Eagles took Texas Tech Red Raiders defenseman Zech McPhearson (8) in the fourth round of the draft.
With the 123rd election of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles chose Texas Tech CB Zech McPhearson.
McPhearson originally enrolled at Penn State, but moved to Texas Tech, where he started for two years . In 2020, he had 53 tackles, 4 INTs (including a choice of six), and 6 pass separations. Here’s an INT from the Texas Tech bowl game:

McPhearson is 5’11, 196, with the ability to play outside or in the slot. He has shown his willingness to attack, he has some ball skills and he has good athleticism.
McPhearson should be able to fight for time as a rookie in both regular defense and special teams as he is in had two blocked PATs in his college career and a long blocked FG return for a TD.
Cornerback was arguably the Eagles’ greatest need in this draft. I mean, look at the depth map.
To the surprise of some, the Eagles didn’t address the position until lap 4. They’ve been able to expand the competition on the corner while the design continues.
