TVLine published the news of the departure of VanCamp in August. In an interview with Deadline posted immediately after Tuesday’s episode, VanCamp confirmed that the recent birth of their first child, their daughter Iris, with her real-life spouse, Josh Bowman, was a major factor in their decision to leave the series.
« I spent so many years on network television but then suddenly the priorities shifted, » she told the website. “I think there comes a moment in every woman’s life – in everyone’s life – when it’s less about work and more about family, and that’s exactly what happened while I was doing the show. If you do so many episodes in another city and then add COVID, most of us haven’t been able to see our families for almost a year. It really solidified me that family is my heart beating right now. «
VanCamp added, » This is a bittersweet moment for me. I’ve loved doing The Resident so much in the four years I’ve been with it. Often you hear someone leaving a show because something bad has happened or there was bad blood. But in this case it’s the other way around. There is nothing but love and respect between all of us, and this decision has not been an easy one for anyone. But for me personally it was the right thing to do. I am grateful that I was shown understanding and compassion. «
