Actress Emma Watson was accused of anti-Semitism by Israel’s former UN Ambassador after she posted an Instagram photo in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

Israeli official Danny Danon retweeted Watson’s post, headed, « 10 Points From Gryffindor For Being An Anti-Semite ».

Watson’s Instagram photo – itself a repost from the Bad Activist Collective account – showed people marching and posters with the title Hold « Free Palestine ». Superimposed on the picture was the words “Solidarity is a verb”.

Mr Danon’s comments were criticized by Tory colleague Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, who said: “Showing solidarity with the Palestinians is not anti-Semitism. Terrifying comments from the former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations. ”

But Israel’s current UN ambassador Gilad Erdan also criticized the Harry Potter actress’s social media post.

He wrote:“ Fiction likes in Harry Potter works, but in reality it doesn’t work. If it were, the magic used in the wizarding world could eradicate the evils of Hamas (which oppresses women and seeks the annihilation of Israel) and the Palestinian Authority (which supports terrorism). I would be for it! ”

Husam Zomlot, head of the Palestinian Mission in Great Britain, praised Watson for her position. He said: “Solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for liberation and justice is a human and moral duty for all freedom-loving people. Thanks to Emma Watson. ”

Watson, 31, has often given control of her social media accounts to various activist groups.

During Cop26 in Glasgow last year, Ms. Watson gave climate activists access to hers Instagram account and her bio still says the account was « taken over by an anonymous feminist collective ».

The quote was: « Solidarity does not assume that our struggles are the same or that our pain is the same It is pain or that our hope is directed towards the same future.

“Solidarity includes commitment and work as well as the recognition that we, even if we do not have the same feelings, the same life or the same body, are on a common ground Live the basis. “
