Three goals in seven electrifying minutes gave Everton a 3-1 win over Burnley at Goodison Park to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

After Burnley dominated the first half, Ben brought on Mee deserved the lead with a header from Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s cross (53rd), but at the hour the game turned out of nowhere after a cross from Andros Townsend (60th), before Townsend rolled a force into the top corner from 25 yards (65th).

Gary Neville described the goal in Monday Night Football as « unbelievable », while Jamie Carragher described it as « a piece of magic ».

Townsend’s summer newcomer Demarai Gray gave Everton a 3-1 lead just 27 seconds after the restart (66th) and raced through on goal after the pass from Abdoulaye Doucoure , while Townsend and Sub An dre Gomes came fourth just a few centimeters later.

The result means that Everton is fourth with 10 points from four games, while Burnley is 18th with just one point.

Everton: Pickford (6) , Coleman (6), Mina (6), Godfrey (6), Keane (7), Digne (6), Townsend (8), Allan (6), Doucoure (8), Gray (7.)), Richardson ( 6)
Subs: Gomes (7), Rondon (NA), Iwobi (NA)
Burnley: Pope (6), Lowton (5), Tarkowski (6), Mee (7), Taylor (5), Gudmundsson (6), Westwood (5), Brownhill (6), McNeil (6), Wood (6 .)), Barnes (6)
Subs: Lennon (5), Vydra (5), Rodriguez (NA)
Man of the Match: Andros Townsend

The loss of Dominic Calvert-Lewin forced Rafa Benitez to change form and go to a back three with Richarlison alone in a central position, and it didn’t work out early with Burnley dominating.

Dwight McNeil’s vicious performance was perfect for Wood in the early stages, but the striker flinched unusually and failed to make proper contact six meters away.

Everton struggled to find her step, or indeed, for the first 25 minutes getting out of their half when Ashley Barnes and Mee missed half-chances before Josh Brownhill’s low shot in good space was saved by Jordan Pickford.

Everton finally got into play just before half an hour when Doucoures drilled a shot from the penalty area by Nick Pope was brilliantly kept away, but Doucoure himself is lucky that the rules on physicality have been relaxed this season and James Tarkowski to the ground when he was defending a corner but went unpunished despite VAR intervention. « It should be a penalty this season, » said Jamie Carragher.

Burnley took the lead after Everton failed to clear a cross early in the second half. The ball fell to Gudmundsson on the right and his perfect throw was too hard to miss for Mee, who nodded past Pickford from close range.

Since Goodison Park was calm, no one could have foreseen the Everton Blitz . Keane’s excellent header just before the post from Townsend’s right flank increased the volume and Benitez then brought in midfielder Andre Gomes for defender Ben Godfrey, a change he’d made before goal.

Everton smelled blood and started in waves to attack when Townsend produced the moment of the game and one of the goals of the season so far. He picked up the ball in space and made a couple of taps before slipping a wonderful 25-yard shot into the top left corner, his first Premier League goal for Everton since a Crystal Palace summer move.

Seconds after the restart it was 3-1 when Doucoure, who got a more offensive role thanks to the introduction of Gomes, brought the trailing Gray onto the goal and he scored his third Everton goal from just three shots under Pope. </ p A rampant Everton didn't finish there and had two big chances to snag a fourth – Pope brilliantly beat off Townsend's evasive effort before Gomes rolled just past the far post in the box – and the rush of the game continued before it was full . Time when Tarkowski had ruled out a goal at the other end because of an offside from Wood.

There were two changes for Rafa Benitez, as he had to do without Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the attack. This resulted in an adjustment of the formation to a back three with Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey. Richarlison went on the offensive alone, while new signing Soloman Rondon was on the bench.

Burnley kept the same starting XI as they did at Leeds, which meant Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes would stay together in attack. Club record holder Maxwel Cornet was in Burnley’s squad for the first time.

Although Everton have shown pragmatism under Benitez so far this season, those scintillating 15 minutes will give Toffees fans hope that the team will make it both ways because they want to crack the top 6 for the first time since 2014.
