At least four people were injured in an explosion at an ExxonMobil oil refinery in Texas. The fire was declared a « major industrial accident » by law enforcement as huge flames from the Baytown chemical plant shot into the night sky over San Jacinto Bay as local residents reported « a major boom » strong enough to close houses shattering and « knocking pictures off the wall ».

The 3,400 hectare Baytown -Complex was founded 100 years ago in 1919. The facility includes a 561,000-barrels-per-day refinery. This is not the first time the ExxonMobil plant has had a major incident.
