But many of the current crops weren’t on that side and Rodgers said they now have the opportunity to create a piece of history for the Thai club of their own write.

21,000 spectators will be at Wembley, with Chelsea and Leicester each being allocated 6,250 tickets as part of a pilot project to attract large crowds to events sites during the coronavirus pandemic.

Rodgers, whose side is also on track to qualify for next season’s Champions League, hopes veteran center-back Jonny Evans will join after two missed games with a heel injury against Chelsea.

« We’re giving him another day, » said Rodgers. « He’s done very well in the last 24 hours. He looked very good and we’ll see what the reaction is after that and make the final decision tomorrow (Friday).

« It’s just a discussion between me and Jonny. You always have to talk to the players and Jonny is a warrior.

« If he can play in any way – even if he’s not 100 percent – he’ll be out there. »
