The San Diego Padres will play their first game since taking over infielder Adam Frazier on Tuesday, relying on his bat to solve the puzzle of Oakland newcomer James Kaprielian.
The opponents beat in this season 0.202 ahead of Kaprielian. In 12 starts, the former Yankees No. 1 pick three runs or less allowed 11 times and five hits or less abandoned 11 times for a 5-3 record and 2.65 ERA.
Padres starter Chris Paddack does a good job at limiting walks ( two per nine innings) but has an ERA of 5.17 averaging 0.270 opponents and has given up at least three runs in four of its last five starts. The Oakland Bullpen enters the series in good shape and has the best ERA in the AL in the last 30 days. Overall, athletics has the second best road ERA among the AL teams at 3.67.
As Oakland allowed four or fewer runs in 13 of the last 14 games and the Padres allowed three or fewer runs in five of the last six games have scored, athletics will improve their playoff chances with a win on Tuesday.
