Kyrie Irving’s Nets fandom has been well documented over the past few years. After all, the 29-year-old grew up in New Jersey.

In March 2020, Irving and his former teammate from St. Patrick High School (NJ), Jeremiah Green, went on Instagram Live and worked out more information.

Richard Jefferson, who averaged 17.4 points per game over seven seasons for the Nets from 2001 to 2008, recently appeared in the debut episode of the Called Game with Kenny Beecham. Eventually the conversation turned to Irving, who was Jefferson’s teammate with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2015-17.

Jefferson shared a story about an early interaction with Irving that revealed more about just how big a Nets fan Irving was .

(At the time), I don’t know anything about Kyrie. He’s my teammate but like your boys but you don’t really talk. And so he comes into the room and we sit there and I knew he was an East Coast kid, Jersey. But suddenly he sits there, we talk and he says: « You see? I lived in Jersey. The first game I was (was) in the Continental Airlines Arena. » And he likes to swing and I like  » Damn it, Kyrie « . Because Kyrie is either calm or he is the life of the party. At that moment he decided to be the life of the party. I said, « Kyrie, I had no idea. » (Kyrie said 🙂 « Oh my God. … We were at the top of the arena and the next thing I know after the game » – his dad knew some people – « Dad said, hey, you want to go on the pitch and shoot “No, not until I’m a gamer.” And suddenly he’s with the Brooklyn Nets because he’s a huge Nets fan. Little did I know Kyrie was going to go down as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, and a small part of him grew up huge fans of myself, Jason Kidd, and Kenyon Martin.

After the missed game on Thursday against the Indiana Pacers due to right groin pain, Irving will be available for Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday, according to ESPN’s Malika Andrews.

Kyrie Irving and Blake Griffin can both play on the Nets second night in a row .

Irving has missed a total of 17 games this season for various reasons, but when he was on the court the seven-time All-Star was electrifying, averaging 26.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6, in 46 games 4 assists.
