Twenty retired generals have unleashed a political storm in France demanding a military takeover if President Macron cannot stop the Islamists’ « disintegration » of the country.
The open letter in Valeurs Actuelles , a right-wing news magazine, has found resonance after a Tunisian Islamist stabbed a 49-year-old woman who was working at a police station in Rambouillet in the western Paris commuter belt Friday.
The Macron government condemned the appeal, of which first signature was Christian Piquemal, a former head of the Foreign Legion, and compared him to the failed coup d’etat of the generals against President de Gaulle 60 years ago this month.
