CM – Ghana’s unemployment rate rises to 13.4 percent


Ghana’s unemployment rate reached 13.4 percent in 2021, according to official figures, up from 6 percent in 2010.

Data released on Thursday by the Ghana Statistical Service shows that 32.8 percent of Ghanaians aged 15 to 24 years of unemployment.

Samuel Kobina Annim, a government statistician, said the country needed to end growing youth unemployment in light of the impact on inflation, interest rates and economic performance.

He added that a political dialogue between stakeholders to assess the causes of rising unemployment and develop the necessary policy proposals to change the situation.

In November, Ghana’s Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta announced that the government’s economic recovery program after COVID- 19 is aimed at expanding productive sectors in order to create enough jobs for young people.
