Here it started to really warm up. A big mountain stage on which the opponents were on Michelotto’s heels. Pierfranco Vianelli won the stage, but Pettersson and Van Springel were nearing Maglia Rosa. The reality was that the leader completely blew up Michelotto but was lucky enough to put his hand in the door handle of a car that pulled him back from his main rivals within a minute or two. The tough meanness in the jury gave him a minute penalty, which was probably fine with Michelotto, as he had won a lot more from his lucky hitchhiking and so kept the jersey that day. The bells were ringing for Claudio, however.
When a Yates falters, GreenEdge usually releases the Nieve Kraken to save the Grand Tour. I suppose the only question is whether you feel like Wrong-Yates has stalled enough in Cortina.
