SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – With France already securing a place in the quarterfinals of the Olympic basketball tournament in Tokyo, Rudy Gobert took a valuable break in the team’s win against Iran.
The Utah jazz star played just under 18 minutes for the French national team and recorded six points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals as they defeated Iran 79-62.
Gobert played all his minutes in the first and third quarters of the matchup and rested in the second and fourth quarters.

France led after the first quarter with 22:17 , but kept Iran in the second quarter to only 10 points and built a sovereign lead of 46:27 at break.
The Iranian legend Hamed Haddadi led all scorers with 18 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals in almost 38 minutes. The game will likely be the last time the former Memphis Grizzlies Center will represent Iran at the Olympics.
With the win, France improved to a perfect 3-0, including a surprise win over Team USA in his Olympic opener to win his competition in Group A.
After beating the Americans, France easily crossed over to the Czech Republic and Iran to crack their ticket to the quarter-finals.
Gobert and France move to the quarterfinals, where they are accompanied by jazz teammate Joe Ingles and Australia. Luka Doncic and Slovenia, while former jazzman Ricky Rubio and Spain have also made it to the quarter-finals.
The quarter-finals consist of the two best teams from each of the three group game tournaments as well as the two best third-placed teams. So far, the French squad led by Gobert is the only team that has reached the quarter-finals with a perfect record.
