November 30th (UPI) – Google is celebrating the Azerbaijani-American computer scientist, electrical engineer and professor Lotfi Zadeh with a new doodle.

On the Google homepage you will find the company logo next to a colorful diagram contains a picture of Zadeh.

On that day in 1964, Zadeh presented his groundbreaking work on fuzzy sets, which introduced the mathematical framework known as fuzzy logic.

The computer scientist was born on February 4, 1921 and later visited the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received his PhD in electrical engineering in 1949. He then became a professor at the University of California Berkeley.

The Fuzzy Sets paper was cited nearly 100,000 times by scientists. The theory offers alternatives to the rigid parameters of traditional logic and presents ambiguous or fuzzy boundaries that more closely replicate the way people see the world.

The concept was used in technological applications such as a Japanese subway System and anti-slip algorithms used.

« So on you, Lotfi Zadeh! There is nothing unclear about your enormous influence in the scientific world, ”said Google.
