NAIROBI, Kenya, October 13 – The Kenyan Football Federation (FKF) record champions of the Premier League, Gor Mahia, will travel to Suez, Egypt on Wednesday morning in the hope of kicking off his CAF Confederation Cup campaign to give this campaign a positive impetus.
Gor started the FKF Premier League title attack positively with the win over KCB on the first matchday two weeks ago and with this momentum they hope to be able to start their continental campaign.
The champions of the FKF Betway Cup will face Sudanese Al Ahly Merowe in the second preliminary round, who has received a bye for the first round.
Captain Harun Shakava says the team has prepared well for the game and is confident of achieving a positive result.
“The last two weeks have been very important for us to try to put everything into perspective. We had time to rest and relax and enough time to train as a team for this important game. I think everyone is focused and ready to play the first game, ”said the defender.

You will be forced to play the first two rounds of the Confederation Cup with a fairly thin squad. When the CAF time slot for transfers was closed, the Kenyan champions were unable to register new players due to a FIFA transfer ban.
Gor received the transfer ban for failing to pay his former coach Steve Polack and winger Dickson Ambundo. By the time they cleared away the large sums owed the two of them, the window was already closed.
But Shakava says they are ready to overlook the challenges ahead and get positive results.
“Playing away is never easy, but our focus is on getting a positive result. A draw or a win puts us in a good starting position for the first leg. We don’t know much about our opponents, but we’ll do well. They qualified for the tournament and that means they are not an easy team, ”he added.
Merowe is playing in Suez, Egypt as none of their homesteads have been approved by CAF for continental games.
