According to the government, an additional 93,045 laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases were recorded in the UK on Friday at 9 a.m., the highest daily total since the pandemic started.
It was an increase of 4,669 from Thursday’s previous record, and an additional 111 people had died within 28 days of testing positive.
Separate figures released by the Office for National Statistics show that there were 172,000 deaths recorded in the UK with a mention of Covid on their death certificate.
The number of coronavirus cases in the past seven days, compared to the previous week, is 132,836 or 38, according to the government, 6% increased.
