On a tower of Berlin Central Station near the Federal Chancellery, activists from Greenpeace have placed a huge « dummy job advertisement ».
The 16 by 22 meter banner reads « Climate Chancellor Wanted » with a list the job requirements.
The job tasks include getting the country on course to 1.5 degrees, phasing out coal by 2030, no new cars with internal combustion engines from 2025 and 100 percent renewable energies by 2035.
« Anyone who as Federal Chancellor wants to take responsibility for the whole of Germany must put the protection of the climate and people at the center of politics, » says Lisa Goeldner, climate expert at Greenpeace.
The vote will decide who will succeed Chancellor Angela Merkel, who did not stand for re-election this year, after leading Germany since 2005.
