CM – Hackett: Four new referees are promoted to the Premier League

0

Over the past season, I have raised concerns about the falling standards of business quality in the English Premier League.

To some extent, this has been shrouded in the fog of poor service from VAR.

With five referees aged 50 and over and the increased workload of some of our top referees, in my opinion fatigue was evident, which in turn led to errors.

PGMOL today announced the promotion of four new referees to the elite list:
Jarred Gillett, Tony Harrington, Michael Salisbury and John Brooks.

I hope that they will be called up to several friendlies in the coming weeks before the start of the new season so that they can get started.

I am particularly impressed with the Australian Jarred Gillett, who spent a week at PGMOL a few years ago to learn about the life of a professional referee and the training plans and regimes of the time.

Few believed they would return to England and join SG1 (Select Group).

This was an agreement I made with Brisbane-based Referee Coach Ted Kearney and Referees Chair Rod Pelosi and it’s great to see it’s finally bearing fruit.
