If there’s one thing we love here at Daily Mail Best Buys, it’s a bouncy, shiny, salon-style blow-dry from the comfort of your home. And we tried many hair tools in our search for the best!

So we figured we’d compare two of the best-selling hot air brushes on the market right now and see how they stack up on key factors like price, ease of use, and the all-important volume factor .

If you’re looking for a new hair styling tool, read on to find out if you should buy the Dyson Airwrap or the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser.

This innovative tool is the dream of all hairdressers and was the first to pioneer Coanda technology to develop a keg that expels air in a way that creates a rotating vortex of rapidly moving air. True to the name, the strands of hair get caught in the airflow and wrap around the shaft, drying and styling at the same time.

That is the main function anyway, but the Dyson Airwrap has a number of different head attachments that allow you to work with this all – Achieve so much in one styling tool. Use it to dry your hair, brush it smooth, curl it or create some volume with the round brush cylinder.

Dyson Airwrap Complete comes with six attachments, including soft and firm straightening brushes, a round volume brush , 30 mm and 40 mm Airwrap cylinders for curling and waves as well as a pre-styled dryer.

Dyson Airwrap Complete Long was developed for hair that is slightly longer – around chest level and below. It contains the same attachments as above, but these have longer runs designed for longer hair.

Dyson Airwrap Smooth Control is aimed at people with hair that is prone to frizz. It is equipped with four attachments, including a fixed straightening brush, two curling irons and a dryer attachment.

Dyson Airwrap Volume Shape is perfect for adding volume and shape to the hair and offers a straightening brush, a round volume brush, 30 mm curling irons and a dryer.

I got it as a Christmas present for myself when it first hit the market. Dyson didn’t have that many options back then, so I bought the standard four curling iron attachment set (one thick counterclockwise, one thick clockwise, one thin counterclockwise, and one thin clockwise)), a soft straightening brush, and a few others Standard attachments.

I had to buy the round curling brush attachment separately when it came on the market a few months later.
I wasn’t overwhelmed at first (if you’ll forgive the pun). The styler was pretty new so there weren’t many tutorials or videos on how to use it. I also had problems with the tool heating up too quickly and then switching it off because of a defective air filter.

A few weeks later, Dyson sent me a replacement air filter within a few days of my email (one of the easiest parts replacement processes I’ve ever experienced and after watching some videos I got the momentum to use it.

I like the temperature range and the easy-to-use buttons that make controlling the tool a breeze. The Cool Shot is also a lifesaver as you can blow the hair out with cold air to set it in place.

My favorite attachment is the round brush attachment. It’s pretty thin for a round brush, so it takes a little longer to part the hair and style each segment – but the resulting shiny, bouncy blow-dry is well worth the effort.

My second favorite attachment is the curl attachment, but my hair is as thick as it gets and the curl just won’t hold even if you use the thinner shaft. It’s a little annoying as I have to use a proper curling iron to get this effect, but I still get the voluminous, blow-dry look. The result is a little more frizzy compared to the hot brush attachment as there are no bristles to smooth out the static.

However, I’ve seen some TikToks showing people using a bobby pin to hold the curl in place while it is still wrapped around the barrel. This might be a good solution to my curl not holding problem; This way, the curl has a lot longer time to set while you work on the rest of the hair.

With a light grip and a thick shaft with coarse bristles, this is a much simpler tool that works like a large hair curler with the added bonus of hot air. It’s not quite as innovative or elegant as the Dyson, but it still has some punch.

It looks similar to the Dyson Airwrap when the Dyson is wearing its round brush attachment; The main difference is that the Revlon brush is jumbo size.

The Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser also has a slightly morally oval shape and the bristle range is slightly different. In addition to the blunt bristles that radiate in different directions, the Revlon hot brush also has some straight plastic bristles with pinhead tips.

This is a single-attachment tool, so it’s immediately less versatile than the Dyson Airwrap and therefore difficult to compare. However, there are two size options available:

The big selling point was that it claims to be a little faster than the Airwrap because it’s bigger and therefore can style wider sections of hair. I also like the two different bristles on this styler; It consists of the beaded bristles of the soft paddle brush of the Dyson Airwrap mixed with the coarser bristles of the round hot air brush.

Compared to all Dyson Airwrap attachments, this is actually a much faster tool. As mentioned above, I think there are two reasons for this;

I immediately noticed what I don’t like about this tool; it’s so big that it sometimes struggles to dry out at the root. Since I really want to fight frizz and add volume here, it’s really annoying that drying here is so tedious. It’s manageable, but I wish it wasn’t quite as tricky – I think the smaller size would come in handy.

If you want: straight, frizzy-free hair with a bit of bounce and a good shine You should choose: The Dyson AirWrap with the fixed paddlebrush attachment

If you want: A voluminous blow-dry with a lot of body and bounce You should choose: The Revlon One-Step Hot Hair Dryer and Volumiser. Choose the smaller size if you have shorter hair and the larger size if you have long hair.

If you want: A voluminous blow-dry with more curls and movement You should choose: The Dyson AirWrap either with the curling attachments ( if you have fine hair) or the hot brush attachment (if you have the time and patience to work on smaller sections of hair).

It’s worth noting that your results may vary depending on your hair type. Hence, it is important to pay attention to reviews from different people. You can watch this video test of the Dyson Airwrap on 4C hair or this video test of the Revlon One Step Hot Air Dryer and Volumizer on 4C hair.

Yes! These are comparable enough to say that the Revlon hot air brush is a good, inexpensive alternative to the Dyson AirWrap. They are not identical in function and the Dyson Airwrap offers so much more versatility. However, if you’re looking to save some cash, the Revlon One-Step Volumiser is a great option.

Yes, you can buy a smaller version of the Revlon One-Step Volumiser and Dryer, which is great if you have shorter hair. The barrel measures 61 x 38 mm, which is much thinner compared to the larger 71 x 45 mm on the original. So you can use the Revlon hot air brush regardless of your hair length!
